“...Until now I’ve outsourced VFX and only then very rarely. Since Justin has come into the business full time we’ll be doing more of it. My favourite effects are the ones you can’t see, but rather add to the intensity or help ‘sell’ the shot. I tend to think visual effects date a clip very quickly so I prefer to concentrate on the photographic strengths. There are of course exceptions to the ‘hidden FX’ rule when we can’t help ourselves. We’re only human. More recently, The Lee Kernaghan ‘Love In The Time Of Drought’ clip has many more effects shots you can’t see than ones you can... “

Love in the Time of Drought
For this clip we wanted to do something really special and cinematic. Ross shot all of the green screen and background plates near Maitland in NSW and then gave the finished edit to Justin who set upon creating the look of the hallway scene (shown left), the front of house scene with all of the dust and the end shot with the couple hugging with the rain starting to fall and the lightning in the distance.
The other big job was to build the strong light sources (lens flares) for throughout the video to help enhance the drought feeling. It also helped to make the love scenes more stylised and not so, well, pornographic.

I Saw The Sun
For this clip Ross originally thought of having streams of light coming through the windows in the big sunroom scene but as it was being designed it was decided that it would look better if the streams were coming down from the shots outside. Justin also used some of the shots of the trees (example below) and designed a light stream to turn the static tree shots into something a little more magical.
